Showing my work
Directing people to look at my work and website is very important at this stage and one of the most useful and easiest ways I have found not only to get my work 'out there' for people to see it is simply by making use of society6, posting regularly on there keeps people up to date with where I am at with my design practice.
Here is an image of my work featured on part of the society 6 website...

Portfolio before tutorial...
Here are images of the portfolio spread I am showing in the tutorial with Justin, I am going to as for general feedback at advice on the layout.
Freelance UK

Very useful website with forums, information on starting out and money, marketing yourself etc. Very good resource to make use of.

What are my plans?
Seen as though my initial plans of trying for internships and job offers straight out of uni have been put on hold for a while due to things going off at home I have been re-thinking my plans for the future.
I have still been researching into design studios I want to contact and get feedback for my portfolio, with a few tweaks I am ready to send off examples of my work... bit late in the day but I have to start sometime, and like I said I wasn't really sure what I wanted to gain from contacting studios when I cannot offer myself for work or placements for the near future. I have decided feedback and making the initial contacts is too valuable to pass upon at this time, and any feedback about my work and portfolio and advice for the future is too much of a good thing to ignore. With this focus I am going to get to it and contact studios I have admired and found from working on my design context who deal with a lot of briefs to do with social issues or have a clear focus on type and layout design.
I am also in the process of buying my first house! So I will have space in the 3rd bedroom, - an attic room, to set myself up a studio space so I can keep working from home and ticking over ideas so when I come to applying for internships and looking for jobs in the future I am not stale and out of date as a designer. I want to make good use of my online prescence at this time and use the networking sites like behance etc. to keep my work out in the field.
I am also going to research more into small freelance jobs I can take up, and see if I can build anything from this. I doubt I will be able to set aside enough time to set-up myself fully as a freelancer but I will be looking for projects I feel I can take up on, this way I can always be expanding my portfolio and get more live jobs in there.
So there is a basic layout of my future plans, now I can get to blogging interesting resources to help me fulfill them...

Creative Networks Thurs 27th May 2010...
Went to creative networks fair after the lecture theater presentations, had a browse round the stalls and picked up some contacts for future reference.
Exit - presentations in lecture theatre
Went to the Exit Presentations yest they were really informative, especially from graduates Yorkshire I have quite a bit of information now in my note book that I will be able to browse through.
The other presentations were pretty much based on setting up your own business, really interesting stuff but not what I am interested in at this moment in time.

EOYS proposal alterations from feedback...
Generally pleased with the EOY banners now, just got to try different colour for the type for the 3 min brief then when I have chosen that I can go print :)
EOYS proposal handed in...
This is the final layout I handed in for the proposal, ready for feedback on it. I really like the left board and think it is impacting, but I was still struggling with the right board, I love the project and really want to show it off but I am struggling on how to do this effectively, even after the suggestions from my tutorial on it. I think I am too close to the project and need another look over on this from a different persons perspective...
EOYS proposal development...
Here are the layouts I tested for the show boards, I was finding hard too find a layout that was impactful but still showed my work off well. I have chosen the last spread to hand in.

End of Year show initial proposal
For the end of year show I am proposing to showcase two briefs.
Adapting the Neuroscience book to a banner format with the spreads laid out and have the booklet on a plinth. Adapt the 3 Minutes To Think brief to a baner format with spreads laid out and poster and have the book on a plinth.
Have my portfolio on the plinth and a business card holder attached to the front of the plinth.

Working on my portfolio
Here is the working progress of altering and updating my portfolio with new briefs after I photographed all my work, I need to condense the ammount of briefs I am showing to really communicate what I am about as a designer and I am not happy with some of the layouts so they need more work on them.
My previous printed portfolio had an insert at the front and back printed on tracing paper and I think this choice of stock was a nice starting and finishing point to my work and added something a bit different, so I am going to print the 1st and last page in the same way now I have re-branded my portfolio.
